Digitalization has become a fundamental pillar for economic, social and cultural development worldwide. In the case of Chile, access to effective connectivity is a crucial step to ensure that all citizens can access the benefits derived from the Knowledge Society. In this context, the digital transformation strategy Chile Digital 2035 was presented as a comprehensive plan to address this challenge.
The Digital Transformation Strategy Chile Digital 2035, developed under the leadership of the Senate Transport and Telecommunications Commission, with the technical assistance of the Economic Commission for Latin America (Cepal), and in collaboration with entities such as Chile Telcos and the Chamber of Digital Infrastructure, establishes an ambitious comprehensive plan to address this challenge.
The report, developed with the participation of leading institutions and experts, identifies crucial measures aimed at boosting effective connectivity in Chile. It focuses on reducing connectivity gaps, particularly in vulnerable households, led by women and students, by simplifying procedures and prioritizing connectivity in these sectors.
In addition, it seeks to promote digital skills and collaboration in the digital ecosystem, to ensure that all citizens are prepared to capitalize on digitalization.
The Effective Connectivity Plan in Chile, which is part of this strategy, seeks to "massify access to digital technologies, ensuring that all inhabitants of the country can connect to the Internet at any time and place with adequate quality. It focuses on closing the broadband network coverage gap, promoting productive access in different sectors to promote sustainable economic growth. The plan includes measures such as high-speed networks, productive connectivity, enabling digital infrastructure, reducing administrative barriers and regulatory modernization".
At the regional level, Chile has made significant progress in digital infrastructure, with a high percentage of households connected to the Internet, mainly through fiber optics. This positions Chile as one of the leaders in global growth in this area.
However, there are still important challenges to be addressed, especially in reducing connectivity access gaps in certain areas of the country. The combination of technologies adapted to the geographic and socio-demographic characteristics of the territory is proposed as a comprehensive solution to close these gaps and ensure that all inhabitants can access effective connectivity.
Consequently, the Digital Transformation Strategy Chile Digital 2035 and the Plan for Effective Connectivity in Chile represent a comprehensive commitment to ensure that all citizens can access and benefit from the opportunities offered by the digital era. With a clear vision and concrete actions, Chile is positioned to become a leader in effective connectivity in the region and globally.
This report symbolizes a strong commitment to digital inclusion, ensuring that every person has access to and can capitalize on the endless opportunities offered by the digital age.
